Opera by Richard Wagner with VR experience
Richard Wagner conceived "The Rhinegold" as a prelude to his four-part stage festival "The Ring of the Nibelungen." In "The Rhinegold," the thematic foundations for Wagner's epochal human drama are laid: longing and love stand against violence and destruction, political action against social necessity. The egotistical actions of the (over-) powerful inevitably lead to the downfall of the whole world. With its characters of nymphs, dwarfs, giants, and gods, "The Rhinegold" sometimes seems like a timeless fantasy epic.
In this new production of "The Rhinegold," the aesthetic forms of various virtual experiences and the digital processing of music and text developed at the Koblenz Theater in recent years will be combined for use. Furthermore, per performance, 15 audience members will have the opportunity to experience the underwater world of the Rhine and the legendary Nibelheim in a specially created VR environment, thus becoming part of the staging in a unique way. This way, these aesthetic worlds are intertwined with the opera's narrative to create a total work of art – perhaps entirely in the spirit of Richard Wagner.
The VR experience is made possible through generous support from the Friends of Theater Koblenz e.V. and the Sparkasse Koblenz.
