Guildo Horn – Reading & Discussion: Finally Normal People

Guildo Horn's moving autobiography “Die Guildomacher” is back as an audiobook – humorous, honest, and deeply human.

A "masterpiece" returns: "The Guild Makers – Finally Normal People" by Guildo Horn now as an audiobook

About sixteen years ago, "Double Me" was published for the first time - an autobiographical novel by Guildo Horn, diving deep into the unique life story of the musician, entertainer, and qualified educator. Now this moving work returns under the new title "The Guild Makers – Finally Normal People" as an audiobook - more current and relevant than ever.

"The Guild Makers" was created back then from a commissioned work of the Gütersloh publishing house, inspired by Guildo Horn's talk show "Guildo and His Guests." In the TV show, nominated twice for the Grimme Prize, Horn talked to mentally and multiply disabled adults about all kinds of possible and impossible topics of life. About love, wars, football, fears, and strengths. Always at eye level, with due seriousness, and above all, with a lot, a lot of humor!

His distinctive approach to inclusion and disability work made him, who had worked for several years as a music teacher at the Lebenshilfe e.V. before his career as an artist, a shaping voice in the social debate. For his commitment, he was awarded the Bobby of Lebenshilfe e.V.

This book is the life story of someone who set out to open his heart. It is a highly personal account of individuality and the power of humanity. Placed between Sigmund Freud and Heinz Strunk.

With inexhaustible dedication and honesty, Guildo Horn has drawn every sentence and every comma from the depths of his memories. In doing so, he leads his listeners through the most secret episodes of his past - brutally honest, funny, and sometimes even shocking.

He himself promises: "Be assured: Everything I tell happened exactly as I tell it. And afterwards, you will definitely know who you are dealing with!" The book is a tribute to those who stood by him and shaped him. He calls them "The Guild Makers" - people with intellectual disabilities who inspired him and helped him become who he is today. "Without my time in the workshop for the disabled, there wouldn't be the Guildo as we know him!"

But why a comeback as an audiobook after so many years?

Guildo Horn critically observes the societal development in dealing with disabled people. "It seems to me that we were much more open 16 years ago regarding integration and inclusion than today. Disabled people are increasingly perceived as a burden rather than an enrichment. That hurts, and it is wrong!"

If today even a newly elected American president, the guardian of the Western world, names people with disabilities and their promotion as a possible cause of an unfortunate plane crash after a terrible disaster, and if disabled people are increasingly seen as a burden rather than an equal part of our community also here at home, it’s time for me to step back into the ring!"

With this audiobook, he wants to counteract this development and once again encourage dialogue in an entertaining way – without accusations, but with deeply felt commitment.

Horn emphasizes: "Inclusion is a goal. It challenges all of us by questioning familiar processes. But that’s precisely what makes it so valuable. Diversity not only takes but can give a lot – perspectives, lightness, and the ability to rediscover oneself."

With his unmistakable voice and his deep connection to the message of the book, Guildo Horn brings this story as an auditory experience straight to the hearts of his audience. "The Guild Makers" is more than an autobiographical work; it is a passionate plea for the uniqueness and dignity of all existence.

Let yourself be caught up and discover the power of inclusion in a work that moves the spirit as much as the heart. Now as an audiobook, an indispensable contribution to the social debate.
