The sold-out debut of the American jazz singer Judith Hill in Trier in 2024 showed that her unmistakable crossover power can fully unfold precisely in the shadow of the Porta Nigra. That's why she is returning on July 16 and once again setting a powerful plea for the funk-infused expressiveness of the moment.

It's not the big names of her collaborations that one could mention to describe her impressive career – but the deep connection to them. Prince produced her debut album Back in Time in 2015, and Michael Jackson chose her for his planned tour This Is It in 2009. As a background singer, she worked with Stevie Wonder, Elton John, John Legend, and George Benson.

But the daughter of Japanese pianist Michiko and R&B bassist Robert "Pee Wee" Hill has long been forging her own path. Her sound hooks between Japanese and African American origins, between earthy soul voice and psychedelic funk, now also featuring sharp guitar solos since her last album.
