Luminous Flow | Jazz im Brunnenhof

It's a tricky thing with electricity. Standing under it means the opposite of being in it. While one refers to energy-charged electrification, the other more implies the gently gliding water current. In the jazz quintet Luminous Flow, both come together: passionate outbreaks from predefined standards and gliding smoothness in the flow of great jazz traditions. On July 23, the five German jazz musicians come to the Brunnenhof – for a sound that meanders instead of flowing straight, captivates, but never appears tamed.

At the forefront: Heiner Wiberny, a living legend of German jazz. For almost three decades the lead alto saxophonist of the WDR Big Band Cologne, double Grammy winner (2007/2008), now a professor at the Cologne University of Music. By his side: Marius Peters, whose award-winning guitar playing earned him three international jazz awards in 2015. Vocalist Christopher Klassen has shared the stage with Grammy winner Dianne Reeves and bassist John Clayton. Oliver Rehmann on drums and David Andres on bass provide the perfect pulse – sometimes subtle, sometimes explosive. In the end, it's hard to decide whether they stand under electricity or in the flow. What's certain is: those who dive in won't forget them.
