Virtual city tour of Wittlich - absolutely worth a walk! With the free app "Lauschtour", you can virtually explore the charming Säubrenner town of Wittlich. At various places in the town, e.g. at the entrance door of the Old Town Hall or at the "Türmchen", the app can be downloaded free of charge via the QR code. Let's go!
The start of the listening tour is the historic market square in the heart of the city. As the tour is guided by GPS points, it is of course also possible to start at other points. On the market square, interesting facts and anecdotes about the Säubrenner fair and other traditions of the Säubrenner town are explained alongside the striking historical buildings. The next stop is the Old Town Hall. Here the windows with the motifs of the Apocalyptic Horsemen by Georg Meistermann are explained. Then the friendly voice guides the user of the eavesdropping tour on to Pariser Platz, St. Mark's Church, Karrstraße and up the Schlossberg to Schlossplatz. Everywhere, locations are inserted where interesting facts about houses, monuments, sculptures and the history of the city of Wittlich are explained, pictures are shown and an appropriate soundscape enlivens the scene. In addition to the guide, there are explanations by the city guide Elke Marx-Zepp, the head of the cultural office of the city of Wittlich, Elke Scheid, the managing director of the Emil Frank Institute René Richtscheid, the city guide Werner Zepp, the winegrower Thomas Losen and the board members of the "Förderverein Wittlicher Kulturgüter e.V." Ortwin Eich and Petra Korff. This change of voices creates variety and a certain tension. From the Schlossplatz, the tour leads to the Scherlsäule and then up to the "Türmchen". Then you walk across the cemetery and through the little lane, the "Krischelspeedschi" with its magnificent view of the vineyards, to the synagogue. The last stop is the Losen-Bockstanz winery, where you can learn about winegrowing in Wittlich.
The guided tour through the old town is about 1.6 kilometres long and takes about an hour.
