They are made up of cellars and catacombs, tunnels and basements, excavation sites, garages, and crypts. These places offer the perfect settings for a stunning cultural experience of its own: from exhibitions, theatre, concerts, culinary arts, to guided tours and lectures.
About the Trier Underworlds Festival
In 2018, the city of Trier won the "Culture | Regionality | Tourism" competition of the federal state of Rhineland-Palatinate with a concept for an underworlds festival ("Trierer Unterwelten"). The Trier Underworlds Festival ("Trierer Unterwelten") convinced the jury with its innovative spirit and its authenticity. Its debut featured 28 underground locations and nine above-ground and brought together 22 cooperation partners in a joint three-week festival which was planned and organized by Trier Tourismus und Marketing GmbH.

This year's edition takes place from October 31 to November 23, 2024.
The festival agenda comprises guided tours, theater productions, art exhibitions, readings, movie screenings, concerts and culinary delights.
