Our winery The Görgen family has been cultivating vineyards and producing wine in Senheim for more than 100 years. At the end of the 1950s, the family was one of the first in Senheim to switch from a pure bulk wine business to bottled wine production and marketing. The reason for this was the demand for the quality of the Görgen wines and the desire to consistently pursue their own idea of wine and quality to the end and to make it accessible to the customer.

The cultivated vineyards are largely located in the Senheimer Lay, a site which, according to the Mosel winegrowing map of 1897, was one of the most highly taxed, which clearly indicates its great potential. Markus Görgen has been the winegrower and manager of the estate since 1994. A winemaker with a heart and a pair of hands that grasp things. He now cultivates 5 hectares, half of which are in the Senheimer Lay, one of the best Moselle vineyards. Riesling makes up the largest share of the vines, accounting for 80% of the total farm area. The work in the vineyards has been adapted to modern methods, but the main focus of winemaker Markus Görgen is on the careful and foresighted cultivation of the vines and the monitoring of growth. This means that he works in the vineyards every day and knows every vine "by name". So he makes the first quality decision right at the beginning, at the first budding of the fresh green. During this "breaking out", the shoots are preserved that carry the respective vintage. Through many individual steps during the vegetation phase, the quality and taste of the future wine are shaped. Making decisions at the right time, carrying out work within the necessary framework at the right time, and thus helping the grape to reach optimum ripeness is the claim that Markus Görgen puts into practice in his vineyards. One vineyard that bears witness to this is the "Senheimer Lay", with one of the oldest plantings on the farm (1976). The taste of the wines is shaped by the terroir and is strengthened in the cellar by gentle, clean and restrained ageing. "Controlled idleness" requires patience and experience and means letting the wine develop its potential that has grown in the vineyard. "The wine gives the direction and I follow" is one of Markus Görgen's principles. Success proves the winemaker and farm manager right. For years, he has been working in a quality-oriented manner with wines that are typical of the vintage and clearly structured - now awarded the State Prize of Honour. When there is a break in viticulture due to the vegetation phase, he pursues his passion - good taste - with his favourite hobby: distilling schnapps, which has also won national and international awards. The next generation is already in the starting blocks with Paul Görgen, whose first red wine in barrique sold like hot cakes. That makes you want more!
