Wine and holiday resort Wehlen, a district of Bernkastel-Kues, is located directly on the Moselle and is home to famous wines like “Wehlener Sonnenuhr”. Situated in the Uferalle, right next to the river, is S.A. Prüm wine estate. To produce excellent, noble Riesling wines is the aim of the estate and its owner, Raimund Prüm: "We stand for wines that show their origin in the glass - even after years. Our Rieslings are stored in our dark and cool vaulted cellar in traditional wooden fuder barrels or modern stainless steel tanks. We give them a lot of time for maturation, because our wines are intended for the future". In 1971, Raimund Prüm, also known as "the red Prüm", took over the estate from his prematurely deceased father and developed it into an international top winery. Since the completion of her studies at renowned Geisenheim college in 2005, Saskia A. Prüm has actively advanced the business. The estate S.A. Prüm has been around for many generations and its name was passed on through the centuries. Prüm: This name is inseparable from viticulture - especially in the Middle Moselle region. The first indications of the Prüm family date back to documents from 1156, showing that the family owned vineyards back then. Besides their top vineyard sites, the vines are the source of the unique wines the estate produces. Therefore, exclusively Riesling is cultivated on the best steep slope sites of the Middle Moselle. Especially the old vines that were planted by the ancestors can tell many a story and are a matter of the heart to the winery. The oldest vineyards date back to 1905.
