SAAR-PEDAL - Car-Free Experience Day on 17.05.2026

The special attraction of Saar-Pedal comes from the combination of undisturbed cycling pleasure in beautiful landscapes and a varied program offered at many action zones along the route.

On the 3rd Sunday in May, the Saar Valley belongs entirely to the active:

From 10 AM to 6 PM, the roads between Konz and Merzig are closed to motorized traffic – free passage for cyclists, skaters, and walkers!

The symbolic starting signal is given simultaneously in Konz and Merzig City Park. The route covers around 50 kilometers along the picturesque Saar – ideal for combining nature, exercise, and sociability. Those who do not want to travel the entire route can conveniently switch to the train.

Special trains between Trier and Saarbrücken carry bicycles free of charge – thanks to additional bicycle cars.

One day – many highlights! Saar-Pedal is more than just cycling. Along the route, 11 action zones invite you to linger, participate, and enjoy. In Konz, Kanzem, Wiltingen, Schoden, Ockfen, Saarburg, Serrig, Staustufe Serrig, Saarhölzbach, Mettlach, and Merzig, communities, associations, winemakers, and restaurateurs offer a colorful, family-friendly program.

Culinary guests can look forward to a wide selection of regional specialties – from traditional spit roast and grilled meats to fish dishes and boiled potatoes with quark, as well as pizza, pea soup, crêpes, waffles, and richly stocked cake buffets.

For the perfect refreshment, numerous beer, wine, cider, and cocktail stands are available. Musically, there is plenty to enjoy: local music clubs, live bands, and DJs ensure a good atmosphere in several action zones and invite you to linger. Children also get their money's worth. They can look forward to a diverse range of offerings – including a bike course, a tower spectacle, face painting, dance workshops, exciting trial bike demonstrations, a roller sprint facility, and a participatory circus.

Those who also want to make exciting discoveries along the way can use the Lauschtour app. Between Konz and Saarbrücken, a total of 16 points invite you to pause and listen. The app draws cyclists and walkers' attention to special features along the route.

Those who only want to travel in one direction or in sections can switch to the train running parallel to the route.

You can reach Konz from the direction of Trier or Saarburg via B 51 or along the Upper Moselle via B 419.

You can reach Saarburg from Perl and Zerf via B 407 and from Konz via B 51.

You can reach Mettlach from Saarburg via B 407, L 131, L 167 and from Merzig via B 51.

You can reach Merzig from Saarlouis via A 8 and from Mettlach via B 51.

The B 51 is closed between Saarburg and Mettlach from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.

Konz: Free parking is available at the main train station in Konz, at the market directly at the town hall, or at the carpool parking lot on B 419 (Am Luxemburger Damm).

Saarburg: Free and all-day parking is available at the carpool parking lots between the swimming pool and opposite the entrance to the REWE market. Paid or time-limited parking is available at the city parking lot (with day ticket), Heckingplatz, Fruchtmarkt, the parking deck behind the town hall, the parking deck in Kunoweiher, and at the train station (with day ticket). 

Mettlach: Parking is available, among others, at the marketplace, at the abbey brewery, at the Villeroy & Boch World, and at the St. Lutwinus church.

Merzig: Free and all-day parking is located at Am Werthchen 1, Wagnerstraße, Bahnhofstraße, Schankstraße, Kasinostraße, Schwarzenbergstraße, Christian-Kretzschmar-Platz, St-Médard-Platz as well as in the underground car park Neues Rathaus.

Additionally, parking is available opposite the city hall, at the cattle market, at the Halfenhaus, at the Senkelchen/Josefstraße intersection, at the Blättelborn stadium, in the rear part of Am Werthchen street (Am Werthchen 2), and in the area Kirchplatz/Vereinshaus.

DB route Koblenz - Trier - Saarbrücken to Konz and Merzig stations. 

DB route Wittlich - Trier - Perl to Konz Mitte station.

DB route Koblenz - Trier - Luxembourg to Kreuz Konz station.
