Viewpoint Pavilion Wehrer Rosenberg

  • Palzem

The Wehrer Rosenberg has been a beacon of biodiversity since 2020. Enjoy the fantastic view over the Moselle.

Farmed terraces in viticulture are rare on the Upper Moselle. One of the few vineyards with terraces on the German side of the Moselle is the Rosenberg site in Wehr. In its heyday a good 100 years ago, wines from this site achieved top prices and enjoyed a worldwide reputation. Even today, the wines from Wehr's Rosenberg are unique because they have their own typical character with a certain rose-scented note. But not only the wine itself, also the vineyard is famous. The vines grow on numerous terraces, which can often only be reached on foot and are tended by hand. Rock walls and dry stone walls alternate. Originally, they were small plots of between 89 and 120 square metres, which are now in the hands of the Carlsfelsen winery from Palzem. The Wehrer Rosenberg has a special wealth of characteristic habitats, animal and plant species and was awarded the title of Beacon of Biodiversity in 2020. Vineyard peaches, red-fruited fence beet, white stonecrop and vineyard grape hyanzinths grow in the vineyard. Numerous insects are on the move, such as the mullein monk, the spindle moth or the musk tick. Wall lizards can be seen hunting among the rocks and on the dry stone walls. A small via ferrata leads over the steep limestone cliffs and the narrow vineyard terraces of the Wehrer Rosenberg. You quickly gain height and can enjoy the views of the Moselle valley and neighbouring Luxembourg. The highlight is the viewing pavilion at the highest point, which invites you to rest and have a picnic.
