The "Burghaus" of a former "Wasserburg" was first mentioned in a document in 1246. In 1325, on the occasion of a feudal commission to the Elector Balduin of Luxembourg (1307-1354), it was described as a complex surrounded by a moat. The castle house was built in the 15th century. until 17. It was the residence of famous families and the birthplace of Archbishop Johann III. von Metzenhausen (1492-1540) and the canon and governor of Trier, Hugo Emmerich von Eltz (1643-1698).The "Burghaus" of a former "Wasserburg" was first mentioned in a document in 1246.
