"Alteburg"
About 4. 5 km southeast of Zell lies the late Roman "Höhensiedlung Alteburg" on an almost inaccessible slate spur surrounded by the Altlayer Bach. It is located in the north-east of the city. Schieferfels, 75 m above the Altlayerbach valley, has an irregular summit area, which becomes steadily narrower to the northern tip and which in the northwest has several terraced heels. The length of the summit area is approx. 100 m, its largest width in the southwest approx. 50 m (area approx. 0, 33 ha). The fortification was surrounded by a dry wall. Larger sections of the border wall can be found especially on the southwest flank, on the west flank and on the northern tip. Little is known about the interior design of the plant. Almost in the middle, at the highest point of the plateau, the remains of a dry masonry were found, perhaps the remnant of a tower-like building with approx. 9. 0 m x 5. 5 m side length. Traces of two rock chambers embedded in the slate rocks can be seen in the area of the northwest tip. From the "Alteburg" numerous ceramic, bronze and iron finds are known, including over a thousand coins, fibulae, belt buckles and fittings, fragments of bronze vessels and statuettes, as well as tools and weapons made of iron. The findings indicate a late Roman use of the facility, which was completed in the second half of the 3rd century. until the second half of the 4th century. ==History== That's enough.
