The church of Saint Margaret was built around 800 as the church of a landlord (?). Around 1050 by the Bishop of Trier as the parish church for Bruttig, Fankel, Valwig, Ernst and Ellenz. The parish district extended to the large parish of Eller. The patron saint was most probably St. Remigius.

The church of Saint Margaret was built around 800 as the church of a landlord (?). Around 1050 by the Bishop of Trier as the parish church for Bruttig, Fankel, Valwig, Ernst and Ellenz. The parish district extended to the large parish of Eller. The patron saint was most probably St. Remigius. After 1490: construction of a new Gothic church, rectory and cellar building (to the left of the nave). Completion: 1507 (date above the tower portal) St. Margaret became the patron saint. Statue of St. Margaret on the outside of the tower: yellow sandstone, donated privately in 1995. It replaces the figure from the It replaces the figure from the time of the tower's construction, which was made of tuff and very weathered.
