Kesselstatt Palace

  • Trier

The Palais Kesselstatt (opposite the Bischofshof next to the The Basilica of Our Lady) is a typical city palace of a noble family from the Electorate of Trier that still exists today.

Karl Melchior Freiherr von Kesselstatt had the palace built by the Mainz architect Johann Valentin Thomann between 1740 and 1745. The design of the central risalit of the main façade, which is vaulted despite the cramped location, was a happy achievement. After severe war damage and subsequent reconstruction, the palace is now mainly used as an office building, but a faithful replica of the famous Neumagen wine ship can be found right next to it in the former Bernhardshof.
