- Traben-Trarbach
Along the old Roman road and the new theme trail, numerous plant and animal species of the steep vineyard slopes can be discovered at the Trarbacher Schloßberg. Paired with the cultural-historical buildings, they are witnesses of the millennia-old steep vineyard cultivation, which has contributed a lot to the biological diversity of the Moselle region.
In the art nouveau town of Traben-Trarbach, a ridge with the ruins of the "Grevenburg" rises on the Trarbach side of the river. On its sunny flank one finds the vines on the steep slope of the Trarbacher Schloßberg vineyard site. The northern side is covered by forest. The vineyard site used to be accessed only by a Roman road, the "Alte Straße". It was once the much-used connection to the Hunsrück and was built in some places with walls on both sides like a hollow way. The rock and slate walls - some of them in impressive arches - offer very different habitats with a sunny and a shady side. Even during a land consolidation, the old connecting path was preserved with its original character. The adjacent vineyards and orchards, vineyard fallows and transitions to the forest add to the diversity of landscape elements.
