Obelisk auf dem Asterstein

  • Koblenz
After the second unification war, also called German War, the officers of the VIII. In 1869 the army corps erected a monument to the fallen. The obelisk, visible from afar from the left and right sides of the Rhine, was built 200 metres away from Fort Asterstein. The inscription on the pedestal, carved in sandstone, reads: "The comrade who fell gloriously for king and fatherland in the campaign of 1866, erected by the officers of English Prussia in honour of his fatherland. VIII Army Corps". Today the area is part of a new fortress park around Fort Asterstein and a magnificent vantage point with a unique view of Koblenz
