Valwig is of Celtic origin and thus one of the oldest villages on the Moselle. The 500 inhabitants are divided between the two districts of Valwig and Valwigerberg. The village, with its narrow alleys and nooks, is rich in architectural monuments from past centuries. The vineyards above Valwig are home to the Apollo butterfly, a warmth-loving butterfly species that is normally only found in alpine regions.
