Walking tour through Trier by night (in German)

  • Trier

Careless homeowners, stray pub-goers, thieves and burglars - no, the "customers" that the night watchman has to look after in his job does not necessarily belong to the crème de la crème of the Trier population. But someone has to do the job ...

And so he walks through the dark streets of Trier, armed with a lantern and a halberd, to see if everything is going well. If necessary, the city guard is at his disposal, but in most cases there are a few words of warning to remind those who have already found their way home to extinguish the candles. Or to chase everyone else off the street after the rag bell at the church tower of St. Gangolf has rung. A night watchman has to be a bit rough-legged and grumpy - just a man from the people who were threatened by hunger and poverty in many ways back in the 19th century. But he also knows some insider stories, historical anecdotes and blasphemous jokes.
