Winneburg Castle Ruin

  • Cochem

The ruins of Winneburg Castle, built around 1240, lie about 4 km north-west of Cochem in the Eifel.

On a steeply sloping ridge, about 300 m above the Enderdbachtal valley, which flows into the Moselle valley at Cochem, the castle occupies a dominant position in the wooded hill area. In summer, "knights' rounds" take place here several times, weather permitting. The tour starts in Cochem at the market square and takes one hour, accompanied by the Cochem militia, to the castle ruins, where there is a real "knightly" entertainment programme with music, costumed knights and simple food and drink for young and old.
