A circular walk with interesting information boards about the Osburg forest, its history & its function as a habitat, including a large occurrence of forest ants.
The 11 km signposted circular trail leads from the hikers' car park at the Osburg sports field down into the valley, where Misselbach & Eschbach meet and flow further into the dam as Riveris. Information boards along the way tell anecdotes from the history of the forest around Osburg & provide information on its function as a habitat for the forest ant. With this background information, you will perhaps perceive some things in the forest differently on your next walk!
Along the Riveristalsperre, the drinking water reservoir of the city of Trier and a recreational destination for many hikers, joggers and cyclists, the information boards of the Stadtwerke Trier provide interesting insights into the function of a dam.
General information
Directions
We leave the hikers' car park in Osburg and follow the signs OS2. The trail is signposted in both directions. If we choose the route through the Misselbach valley, we walk in a south-easterly direction through the Osburg forest and reach the information point "Gemeindewald Osburg". The trail continues from here to the next information stop at the former plantation garden and on to the crossroads, where we turn off towards Misselbachtal. Down the valley, the trail continues to the "Millionenkehr", where a table and benches invite you to take a rest. After about 3.4 km, we reach the Misselbach valley and the path now leads us further along the Riveris to the dam. On this section of the trail we pass large forest ant colonies. Many ant burrows can be discovered along the path and an information board provides interesting insights into this topic.
We continue along the dam to the Thielenbach tributary. Here we turn off again towards Osburg and continue uphill along the Thielenbach until we meet the access road to the hikers' car park below the sports field in Osburg.
Safety Guidelines
In principle, entering the forest and walking on the hiking trails is at your own risk.
Depending on the season and the weather, increased surefootedness is required on some sections of the trail. Therefore, wear clothing appropriate to the season and the weather and hiking boots with an appropriate tread.
Equipment
Sturdy shoes, comfortable clothing suitable for the weather, provisions recommended.

Getting there
Coming from Trier, leave the motorway at Trier-Ehrang and follow the B52/L151 towards Hermeskeil. At Neuhaus, turn off in the direction of Osburg. At the roundabout at the entrance to the village, take the 2nd exit. Follow the road until you reach the centre of the village, then turn into Bergstraße, which you follow until the end of the road. The car park is signposted here.

Free parking is available at the hikers' car park.
