Idyllic corners & magnificent views. This family-friendly walk takes you on a total of 6.8 km around the local community of Lorscheid.

On the Hochwald heights near Lorscheid, this 6.8 km trail goes around the local community of Lorscheid. Time and again, we can enjoy views and distant vistas of the various neighbouring communities along the way. Along the path there are orchards with interesting information boards, a biotope with over 100 different plant species and habitats for insects and small animals.

Shortcuts are possible at various points along the trail, which are also signposted with kilometre details. For example, if you skip the signposted "Büchelsbergrunde", you will circle the Hochwald community on 4.3 km. So everyone can find the ideal route for themselves. Rest areas with facilities for children such as two playgrounds, a barbecue hut and a football field make the trail very attractive, especially for families.

As a starting point, we recommend the car park at the village hall in Lorscheid, where you will find a sufficient number of free parking spaces. From here you can also start on any other route around Lorscheid (e.g. Traumschleife Römer-Keltenpfad, Rundwanderweg LO2).

The route is signposted in both directions.

General information

Directions

From the car park at the village hall, head north on the heights above Lorscheid. After about 500 m, we reach a small rest area at the Meirather Kreuz, where the history of the former settlement of Meirath near Lorscheid is pointed out. At this crossroads, the trail can be continued in a north-easterly direction or you can opt for the first shortcut in a westerly direction to the barbecue hut.

The path to the northeast continues and turns right onto a sand-bound path to the Lorscheid water hut. From there, the trail continues over asphalt to the first meadow orchard, which is a little off to the left. Here, a board informs about the numerous, different tree species that have been planted here. The path continues to the next meadow orchard with a resting bench. Here, too, we get all the interesting information about the apple and nut varieties planted.

After another short stretch, we reach a biotope with over 100 different plant species and various habitats for insects and small animals such as deadwood boxes, insect hotel and living tree.

The trail then leads back in the direction of Meirather Kreuz, which we reach again after a total of 2.8 km.

From here, the path leads towards the barbecue hut. There is an ideal resting place with play facilities for children. The trail continues through a small forest towards the village. In the village area, we reach the junction of Hauptstraße, where the local restaurant is located. From here, the path leads to the children's playground with the newly built hikers' hut for resting and lingering.

Back to the starting point, the route leads below the village along a natural path, then through Mühlenweg and Waldstraße back to the car park.
