The Riveristalsperre and fantastic views are offered by this tour suggestion around the Morscheider Grenzpfad. Ideal for those for whom the Traumschleife is too far at just under 16 km.

The hike across narrow meadow and forest paths runs in mostly undisturbed peace along the dream loop Morscheider Grenzpfad.

Some vantage points offer a good view of the Riveristalsperre, built between 1954 and 1958. The dam is 178 metres wide and rises 50 metres into the air. From a sensory bench, a view into the Ruwer valley. After a passage through the Morscheid community forest, you come to an old, gnarled oak tree. There, from another sensory bench between meadow grove and forest, you have a good view of the Ruwer Valley, the Moselle Valley and the Eifel.

After 7 km on the dream loop, we leave it and return straight ahead via a farm track to the hikers' car park at the Schweinspielhütte.

General information

Directions

From the car park above Morscheid, we reach the entrance to the dream loop via a 150 m long access path. Here we also meet the Saar-Hunsrück Steig premium long-distance hiking trail, which accompanies us for the next 3.5 km. We follow the Steig southwards and after 400 m turn right. We climb across the natural monument of the quartzite rocks "Langenstein" and reach a forest path. Via this and another path, we reach a forest path that leads us downhill to the Riveristalsperre. A vantage point offers a good view of the dam and the high forest. We continue along the circular path around the dam until, after about 500 m, we turn onto a forest path that leads us uphill. Shortly before reaching the plateau, we turn right and walk through light woodland to a refuge in the Morscheid Hochwald. After crossing the road from Morscheid to Bonerath, we turn sharply left after entering a small wood. After another path passage, we reach a resting place with a great view. The path continues across meadows into the Morscheid community forest. After crossing the wood, we reach another resting place with a view of the Ruwer valley and the Eifel. Here we continue walking and reach a crossroads at km7. Here we return via the farm track, which turns right, to the car park at the Schweinspiehlhütte.

Safety Guidelines

In principle, entering the forest and walking on the hiking trails is at your own risk.

Depending on the season and the weather, increased surefootedness is required on some sections of the trail. Therefore, wear clothing appropriate to the season and the weather and hiking boots with an appropriate tread.

You are in the drinking water protection area of the Riveristalsperre. Please take note of the relevant information.

Tip

Pause at the large bench at the lake view shortly before reaching the dam wall again and enjoy the panoramic view! Plan your rest here!
