777. Moosemannfest

Every year on the 3rd Sunday of Lent, the Moosemannfest is celebrated in Alken.

In memory of the siege and capture of Thurant Castle by the Archbishops of Cologne and Trier in the years 1247 to 1248, the so-called "Mooseman Festival" takes place annually in Alken on the third Sunday of Lent.

The sequence of events is as simple as it is brilliant.

Starting at 11:00 AM, the morning pint begins. The cake sales start, and there are hot snacks available for refreshment.

Around 2:00 PM, guests are welcomed by the mayor along with greetings from the chairman and the wine monarchs.

Around 2:30 PM, a knight on horseback narrates the legend of the Mooseman. Following this, the Mooseman parade begins with fanfare music and "real" knights. All children receive a vineyard stake before the parade, which can be exchanged for the coveted Mooseman pretzel after the parade.

Throughout the day, the old St. Michael's Church and the Fallerport can be visited free of charge.
