Hiking on the Mosel – your family experience!

The Moselsteig trail and its partner trails offer 365 kilometres of adventure for hiking enthusiasts of all ages! There are many stages, partial routes and circular trails that do not overtax small feet and give adults a good feeling right from the planning stage. And when you’re out hiking, you can rely entirely on the excellent markings and signposting throughout.

Stream crossings, castles and great nature experiences offer kids an exciting time. Wooded trails give you some cooling shade in summer. At the same time, the routes are always close to towns, allowing you to take a shortcut at any time if you need to. And in the towns you’ll also find great places to stop off at.

And even your little ones can be part of the party: some stages and partner trails are easily navigated with prams and buggies.

Are you a fan of long-distance hikes?

If so, you can use the public transport system to return to your starting point by bus or train.

A special experience for the whole family: a transfer by boat!

Our tip for the right tour length:

As a rough guide, the German Hiking Association gives a rule of thumb “age times 1.5.” Following this rule, a six-year-old is able to manage nine kilometres, for example. 100 metres in altitude are estimated at one kilometre.

But the pace and the breaks are always determined by the little ones, especially as you often cover twice the distance by running back and forth. Some small surprises, such as a sudden treasure hunt or a note with small tasks found by the wayside, offer variety.
