Ausstellung "Die Leiziger Kunst und ihr Hang zur Literatur".

This year, the Municipal Gallery in Wittlich is presenting the exhibition “The Penchant for Literature in Leipzig Art. From Werner Tübke to Neo Rauch”, which showcases works by various representatives of all generations of the Leipzig School and brings the visual art of literary history to Wittlich. The multifaceted graphics and drawings not only highlight the immense importance of literary sources for the artists, but also provide a cross-section of the creative process across four generations of the Leipzig School. The exhibition brings together works by one of the founding fathers of the Leipzig School, Werner Tübke, as well as works by Lee Doreen Böhm, Rolf Münzner, Michael Triegel, Neo Rauch and others. The Leipzig artists not only draw on the classics of literary history, such as the Epic of Gilgamesh, ancient myths and the Nibelungenlied, but also on 19th and 20th century authors such as Thomas Mann, Mikhail Bulgakov and Fyodor Dostoyevsky. A special feature of this series are the works based on Peter Hacks' children's books, which younger visitors to the exhibition can look forward to. The exhibition opens on 7 September 2025 and will run until 1 December 2025.
The exhibition is based on a collaboration between art historian Dr Richard Hüttel and the Cultural Office of the City of Wittlich.
A comprehensive exhibition catalogue will be published by Imhof Verlag to accompany the exhibition.
