The Barbara-Hoffnung visitor mine in the Nossertal valley between Fell and Thomm consists of two typical roof slate mines from the turn of the century, one above the other. Since its opening on May 1, 1997, more than 270,000 visitors have entered the mine. A guided tour underground takes a good hour at a constant temperature of 12 to 13 degrees Celsius. The visitor mine is located directly on the mine hiking trail, which leads past 10 slate mines and explains the history of mining in the Nossertal valley. As the starting point of the Traumschleife (Schieferwackenweg), which is part of the Saar-Hunsrück-Steig, the mine is ideal for hikes into the side valleys of the Moselle or along the old slate mines. The new information center It all started with one question: how can the existing museum building of the Fell visitor mine be converted into a visitor center that uses modern forms of presentation to tell the story of the former slate mine, the work underground, the use of slate and its current use? At the same time, a multifunctional use of the space was to be created for a bistro and additional cultural events - and all of this was to be realized on a small budget. The solution was called “enclosure”, i.e. a second building was erected above the original one, and all other requirements could be realized in the resulting intermediate space - an architectural gem was created. Bistro "WeinStein" The physical well-being is also well catered for. In our store and in the "WeinStein" snack bar you will find a large selection of souvenirs, refreshments, exquisite wines and food. A terrace and slate-covered pavilions invite you to linger. Opening hours: April 1 to October 31, Tue - Sun and all public holidays, from 10 am to 6 pm (last tour: 4:50 pm). Guided tours take place continuously. Registration for families and individuals is not required! Please book for coach groups. Guided tours outside the regular opening hours are possible for groups on request!
