Deutsche Schreibschrift lesen lernen - Einführung in die Paläografie

Deciphering Old German Cursive

When reading old letters and family documents, or researching other historical writings, those interested in history often find it difficult to decipher the old German cursive script, which was replaced by Latin script in 1941.

The seminars that provide an introduction to reading documents from the 19th century using archival sources from the State Main Archive Koblenz will continue in 2026; the next appointment is: Friday, 20.02.2026 | 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM: The basis of this exercise is a partly printed, partly handwritten entry from a marriage register of the 19th century. This offer is aimed at those interested without prior knowledge. The in-person course will take place at the State Main Archive Koblenz, Karmeliterstr. 1/3. Participation is free, and working materials will be provided.

Please register for one of the dates at: a.grosche-bulla@lav.rlp.de (Andrea Grosche-Bulla).
