On German Mill Day, people are made aware of the significance of the forgotten craft of milling.
The Saarburg Mill Museum participates in the action day with the “Hackenberger Mill” (now the Mill Museum) below the waterfall.

At the “Hackenberger Mill,” a heavy round stone was set in motion by the water wheels, grinding grains into flour. The driving force was the flowing water of the Leuk. The “Hackenberger Mill” dates back to the 13th century. In the museum, visitors can view the former grinding room, grinding systems, water wheels, and a variety of historical devices and tools.
The German Mill Day was initiated in 1994. In 2019, over 1,000 wind and water mills across the country participated.

At the festival, visitors can join in two free mill tours at 11 AM and 3 PM to learn how milling used to work and how important this profession once was. Additionally, the mill women offer coffee and cake as well as music.

A new listening tour and a functional model can be discovered on that day.
For children, a museum quiz is available in German, English, French, and Dutch.

The museum is open from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
