Light Art Festival
The Festival of Lights has been a highlight of late summer since 2011, which not only makes children's eyes light up: every year, ten to fifteen thousand people flock to different quarters and green spaces in the city, which appear in a completely new light thanks to the Illuminale.
When night falls, bushes, trees and buildings are staged in an unprecedented way: with sometimes white, sometimes colorful, sometimes bright, sometimes soft, sometimes small, sometimes large, sometimes projected and sometimes shining through light from thousands of LEDs and spotlights. Lanterns, arcs of light, glowing stars, floating candles and colorful projections. It doesn't matter whether it's Petrisberg, the banks of the Moselle, the palace gardens or Nells Park, Neustraße, Kaiserthermen, Domfreihof or Hauptmarkt: the Illuminale transforms apparently familiar rooms into mystical and fairytale magical worlds.
