In her novel “Elbow”, Fatma Aydemir tells the story of young Hazal, who searches for her place between her desolate family and a society that pushes her away with sharp elbows, and pays a high price for it. The award-winning novel is realized by German filmmaker Aslı Özarslan (“Dilleyla”).

Hazal (Melia Kara) lives in Berlin and has one big wish: she just wants to be given a chance. She wants a life that is worth living and wants to get one step further than her parents. It can't be that difficult, can it? She has already written hundreds of job applications, without success. Instead, she ends up in a scheme run by the job center that doesn't really help her, but keeps her standing in place. When her 18th birthday comes around, she wants to forget all her problems and celebrate. But that doesn't happen. A fatal incident forces Hazal to flee to Istanbul alone, even though she has never been there before ... Mehmet (Doğa Gürer), whom she only knows from the internet, lives here. And Turkey, her parents' home country, is also foreign to her. Completely on her own, Hazal begins a fight for pure survival.
