Kulturkino Kaimt-"Im Land der Wölfe"

Documentary film DE 2024, 102 min, FSK 12 Director: Ralf Bücheler Guest: Thomas Sieb. Hunting warden and others.

For a long time they no longer existed in Western Europe, but now they are back: wolves. In Germany, they have recaptured some areas. From a nature conservation perspective, this is an immense success. But not everyone is happy about the return of the gray predator. This raises the question: how can humans and animals live together in harmony? And who actually has to be afraid of whom? The documentary shows how wolves do not live in untouched wilderness areas but in our midst. They find niches in the cultural landscape, retreat into the wastelands of old open-cast mines, use our roads, cross highways and pass through villages. Their pups play with our waste and drink from the furrows left in the forest floor by machines. The presence of wolves brings challenges: they sometimes eat livestock and many people have a deep-seated fear of them. The film highlights the debates and challenges posed by the return of wolves. Stakeholders from administration, science, agriculture, politics, nature conservation and the general public discuss the integration of wolves in Germany.
