“Where cabbage and turnips grow” a reading with Laura Wagner in the Altstadtbuchhandlung Wittlich on Friday, 09.05.2025, 7.00 p.m.
Laura Wagner takes the plunge. Driven by the desire for self-realization, perhaps even self-sufficiency, and a life close to nature, she leaves the hustle and bustle of Berlin behind and embarks on a very personal adventure: she moves to her grandmother's old farm in the Upper Palatinate and immerses herself in the world of gardening and vegetable growing.
In her book, she talks about this self-experiment and her experiences during her first year of gardening: how she creates beds and plans the planting, upgrades old stables and barns, defends tender little plants against pests and drought, builds an earth oven and processes the bountiful harvest in the kitchen. And she describes how the practical circumstances of country life feel in everyday life, how needs and demands change, how - and whether - aspirations and expectations stand up to reality.
Laura's true-to-life and humorous descriptions are complemented by reflective diary entries, seasonal recipes and atmospheric photographs of the farm and garden in all seasons. A special and inspiring read for anyone who dreams of country life and wonders what awaits them there besides cabbage and turnips ...
