Lukas Sternath | mosel musikfestival

Music festival

Program: Franz Schubert: Piano Sonata No. 18 Ludwig van Beethoven: Diabelli Variations

Up to the Stars

In the life of Lukas Sternath, everything revolved around music from an early age. As a Wiener Sängerknabe, he already traveled the world, performing on the great stages of Europe, North America, and Asia. When his voice broke, the young Austrian already had a new goal in focus – to become a pianist. Since then, he has been captivating audiences and critics at an astonishing pace. When he invites you to his concert in the Pauluskirche, it is one of the "places-to-be" this festival season.

His journey has only just begun, states the Vienna Music Association, succinctly putting it: Lukas Sternath stands at the threshold of a world career. It was therefore only logical that he was named "ECHO Rising Star" for the past season by both the Philharmonie du Luxembourg and there. The initiative of the European Concert Hall Organisation enabled Lukas Sternath to embark on a concert tour throughout Europe. Now as an exceptional talent at the piano.

This is not the first time that the pianist, born in Vienna in 2001, has made headlines: At the International ARD Competition, he was awarded not only the 1st Prize but also seven special prizes in 2022, including the Audience Prize and for “the Best Interpretation.” His journey has only just begun, states the Vienna Music Association, succinctly putting it: Lukas Sternath stands at the threshold of a world career. It was therefore only logical that he was named "ECHO Rising Star" for the past season by both the Philharmonie du Luxembourg and there. The initiative of the European Concert Hall Organisation enabled Lukas Sternath to embark on the commissioned composition. He has received multiple awards at further renowned piano competitions in Bolzano, Dortmund, and Bremen.

The British BBC has now selected him as a “New Generation Artist” for the upcoming two seasons – and he has already performed with the BBC Symphony Orchestra at the “Proms,” the famous promenade concerts. Further debuts are scheduled this season with the Vienna Philharmonic, the Konzerthausorchester Berlin, and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra.

Furthermore, Lukas Sternath has recently completed his master's degree at HMTM in Hannover, notably in the class of Igor Levit. The young artist from Vienna is evidently on the radar of the best – and they are accompanying him on a virtuosic journey that makes a highly anticipated stop at the mosel musikfestival.
