Organ art at the highest level: Prize winner Giacomo Gabusi captivates with virtuoso playing!
Hermann-Schroeder-Prize: Second in the Organ Competition
It was already the tenth edition of the prestigious international competition organized by the Hermann-Schroeder Society and the Mosel Music Festival. After a first round via video submission and a second round at the Abbey of Himmerod, as well as a public final concert in Trier, Giacomo Gabusi stood on the winner's podium as the second-place winner – and thus a concert engagement for that evening in Bernkastel-Kues awaited him, among other things. Since 1999, the "International Organ Competition for the Hermann-Schroeder Prize" has been held for young organists. It is dedicated to the work of the composer and former Trier cathedral organist Hermann Schroeder (1904-1984), who is considered one of the significant German organ composers of the 20th century. The competition takes place every three years and is aimed at young musicians up to the age of 30; this time, there were 19 participants from seven countries. After the three rounds, Giacomo Gabusi was able to receive the 2nd prize. Born in 1997 in Bologna, Italy, he completed an organ study at the conservatory of his hometown, graduating with honors in 2019. He subsequently attended masterclasses in organ and organ improvisation, completed an additional study in the field of harpsichord, and obtained a master's degree in chamber music in 2022. He is currently studying church music at the University of Music in Mainz with Professors Jens Wollenschläger and Hans-Jürgen Kaiser.
Giacomo Gabusi has already won several prizes, including the 1st prize at the Albert Schweitzer Competition in Oppenheim in 2024 and the 2nd prize at the International Organ Competition Daniel Herz in Brixen (2024).
