mosel musikfestival: Wallis Bird & Spark

Open-Air: Wallis Bird & Spark combine classical and pop into an emotional sound fireworks!

Voices of the Heart and Spirit

To conclude the first festival weekend, the renowned Irish singer-songwriter Wallis Bird and Spark – the classical band – will create a spectacular concert experience at the open-air event in the Mosel meadows of Bernkastel-Kues.

The six musicians reflect on the rich, colorful sound universe created by visionary women from the Middle Ages to the present. In their exciting reinterpretations, they offer wonderfully playful and imaginative visions of Venus – presented with ultimate dedication, much passion, and a personal touch

They met at Schloss Bellevue in Berlin during a state reception by Federal President Steinmeier for Irish President Higgins: As one of the most prominent representatives of German-Irish relations in cultural life, Wallis Bird was among the invited guests while Spark performed for the audience. Their classical interpretation of techno music with the piece "On the Dancefloor" not only garnered standing ovations from both presidents but also left the singer-songwriter breathless. In that moment, the idea for a collaboration was born.

With "Visions of Venus," they have created a genre-crossing program that encompasses a millennium of female sound art. Women are celebrated in all their complexity – as mothers, muses, lovers, sisters, dreamers, sirens, warriors, as voices of the heart and spirit.

An archaic medieval melody by Hildegard of Bingen merges with an indie song by Icelandic global star Björk. A Renaissance ground by Francesca Caccini juxtaposes hits by Kate Bush and Tori Amos. Timeless melodies from icons like Joni Mitchell, Carole King, and Janis Joplin are contrasted with the impressionistic sounds of French composer Germaine
Last but not least, Wallis Bird reflects aspects of femininity in her own songs. With well-known hits and brand-new songs, she pays homage to her sisters, some of whom were far ahead of their time in word and deed. In the classical-oriented and essential arrangements by Spark, Bird's powerful voice is embedded in completely new soundscapes. We promise you an exciting journey of discovery against the unique backdrop of the Mosel meadows in Bernkastel-Kues
