The hermitage of Kastel-Staadt is located on a sandstone plateau high above the Saar with fascinating views over the Saar valley. The former Celtic-Roman refuge and hermit's dwelling was rebuilt by the Prussian King Frederick William IV and his master builder Karl Friedrich von Schinkel as a burial church for the blind King John of Bohemia. He thus created one of the most important examples of Romanesque architecture.

Discover the hermitage on an open tour with tour guide Hans-Jürgen Knopp.
