Open guided tour of the Klause national monument with tour guide Hans-Jürgen Knopp. Cost: Adults € 5.00, children 6 - 16 years € 2.50 plus admission to the hermitage. The hermitage of Kastel-Staadt is located on a sandstone plateau high above the Saar with fascinating views over the Saar valley. The former Celtic-Roman refuge and hermit's dwelling was rebuilt by the Prussian King Frederick William IV and his master builder Karl Friedrich von Schinkel as a burial church for the blind King John of Bohemia. He thus created one of the most important examples of Romanesque architecture.
