The archaeological sensation from Blöskopf
For more than 100 years, Roman building remains with a defensive trench at "Blöskopf" near Bad Ems have been known. There have been several excavations at the site, but it was only a 2019 investigation conducted as part of a joint research project by Goethe University Frankfurt am Main and the State Archaeology Office Koblenz that unearthed a small scientific sensation: In the trench of the structure, well-preserved wooden stakes were found, which formed a trap for possible attackers. Such obstacles to approach were already described by Julius Caesar, but in Bad Ems they were discovered in archaeological context for the first time.
As part of the presentation "The Current Find" at the House of Archaeology, these stakes and other finds from the excavations will be presented to the public in detail for the first time.
