Program: Trip to the Moon

Declarations of love to a longing-maker

In the unusual lineup of trombone, drums, and piano, the journey heads towards outer space. The trio Belli-Fischer-Rimmer promises its listeners an exciting trip to the moon, as the select passenger list will ensure a varied journey.

“The sky, endlessly stretched, is your beloved homeland,” Franz Schubert sets the tone for the evening in “Der Wanderer an den Mond.” Like in the art song of the composer, the pale yet mystical earth satellite has fascinated and inspired humanity since time immemorial. The moon is responsible for the tides, for the occasional sleepless night; it accompanies romantic summer evenings and continues to give rise to a cornucopia of music and poetry.

When the trio Belli-Fischer-Rimmer takes its audience on a “Trip to the Moon,” even the musical crew will bring surprises: Schubert, the Schumanns, Brahms, Fauré, Debussy, and Frederic Rzewski will be on board, as well as Radiohead and Tom Waits.

For almost 20 years, the trio, with Frederic Belli on trombone, Johannes Fischer on drums, and Nicholas Rimmer on piano, has been captivating audiences with original programs and an unbridled joy in playing together. In this unusual format, they re-explore classical works and dress them in a fresh sound garment.

During their concert evening at the Pauluskirche in Trier, Belli-Fischer-Rimmer will also shed new light on classical art songs with their personal arrangements, navigating the tension between notation and improvised passages, transforming the music of Tom Waits or Radiohead into chamber music substance. Or as Frank “Ol‘ Blue Eyes” Sinatra sings: “Fly me to the moon – and let me play among the stars.” We say: Welcome on board and have a nice trip!
