UNESCO World Heritage Day

Under the motto "Discover and experience diversity", we will then take a look at the many facets of the 52 cultural and natural sites in Germany.

When the nationwide UNESCO World Heritage Day takes place once a year, Trier traditionally has a good laugh: no other city in Germany has as many ancient world heritage sites as the former Roman capital on the Moselle. And at the same time, in hardly any other city does the visitor find such a diverse world heritage in such a small area: Porta Nigra and basilica, cathedral and Liebfrauenkirche, Kaiser- and Barbarathermen, amphitheater and Roman bridge: almost every hundred meters Trier offers buildings that are made to amaze .

On June 2, they will be the center of attention. In free guided tours, experts offer an entertaining and exciting look behind the scenes: What new insights have archaeologists been able to gain in the past few months? What are the tasks associated with the World Heritage title? What work on the monuments is planned for the future? In addition, there are not only buildings that can be admired: in the treasury of the city library, a world cultural asset of the very first rank is also presented: the "Codex Egberti", which has been part of the world documentary heritage since 2004. The Codex Egberti can only be experienced digitally this year.
