Guided tour for the supply of Prussian soldiers
The tour for fortress experts, where water plays the main role at the Ehrenbreitstein Fortress, but the soldiers' everyday life is also not neglected.
On the tour regarding water supply and provisioning at the fortress, you will follow the traces of the water pipeline through the fortress. Along the way, you will learn why water is so important for a military construction: it was not only used for drinking, cooking, and washing, but also for extinguishing and cooling heated cannon barrels. Additionally, the approximately 1500-man strong garrison requires provisions and in case of war, additional ammunition and gunpowder. You will learn how all of this was procured and stored, as well as the logistical effort that also impacted soldiers' daily life, on this unusual journey through the fortress. The highlight of this tour is the view into an underground cistern.
