Wine Festival Highlights

Moselblümchen meets Winemaker's Apron

During the Middle Mosel Wine Festival, it is customary for women to wear Moselblümchen and men to dress accordingly in winemaker's aprons! And everyone who appears on Thursday evening at 6:30 PM on the marketplace in Bernkastel in this Mosel attire will receive a gift and a participation ticket for a later raffle! The marketplace will then be bustling with countless Moselblümchen and winemaker's aprons, creating a fantastic scene against the backdrop of half-timbered houses. You shouldn't miss this.

Reception and Coronation of the Mosella

The Wine Festival Friday has always been characterized by the Mosella, the wine queen of the town of Bernkastel-Kues. The historic marketplace in Bernkastel fills with hundreds of spectators as the Mosella enters on an ornate float with her two princesses. Traditionally, local associations such as the Bernkastel Citizens' Guard, the Landshut Knights, the medieval group, and the music association provide the appropriate musical accompaniment. In addition, over 20 wine queens from numerous Mosel communities, with twice as many wine princesses, walk the red carpet to the stage. The Bernkasteler Doctor, the cellar master of the Knight of Hunolstein, and the herald with his companions, who announces the Wine Festival message, will also be present.

Mosella Franka I. will represent the town, the region, and the wine for two years. Her goal is to inspire wine lovers from other villages and towns to visit Bernkastel-Kues. She is supported by her wine princesses Luna and Giulia. Franka I., who has previously gained royal experience as a wine princess, approaches her office with spontaneity and openness.

The fireworks on Saturday evening at 9 PM is the highlight of the wine festival, captivating both young and old. For almost half an hour, colorful lights, sparkling rain, and impressive light displays illuminate the dark night sky. Find a nice spot by the Mosel river and enjoy the colorful spectacle in the night sky, preferably with a glass of delicious Mosel wine in hand.

Traditional Festive Parade

With countless groups from home and abroad, the festive parade on Sunday afternoon at 2 PM winds through the old town, over the Mosel bridge to Kues. Among others, the wine royals from over 20 Mosel communities with their unique floats will participate. Music associations and various walking groups such as winemaker's aprons, winemakers from back in the day, and Moselblümchen make the grand parade complete. Find a spot along the parade route and enjoy the colorful hustle and bustle. Or, if you want to learn more about the individual communities with their floats and groups, listen to the commentary on Römerstraße, in the marketplace, or at the bridgehead.
