Wittlicher Konzerte - Avi Avital & Omer Klein "Classic meets Oriental Jazz"

Avi Avital & Omer Klein ‘Classic meets Oriental Jazz’ on 21 March 2025 in the Wittlich Synagogue Avi Avital, mandolin Omer Klein, piano

The mandolin virtuoso Avi Avital, internationally renowned in the classical music scene, brings the Musikkreis a highlight of its concert season. The charismatic musician is regarded as one of the greatest mandolin players of our time. His recordings for Deutsche Grammophon are celebrated worldwide. For this programme, Avital immerses himself in both classical music and jazz. He is joined by jazz pianist Omer Klein, who has earned himself a permanent place among the elite of contemporary jazz pianists.

Avi Avital, who has helped his instrument gain new popularity, meets jazz pianist Omer Klein. Together they present a fascinating dia- logue of oriental chamber jazz, virtuosic, catchy, full of esprit and audience-pleasing - and an arrangement of four movements from Johann Sebastian Bach's Partita No. 2 in D minor for solo violin, BWV 1004. This programme has already caused a sensation in Vienna, Hamburg, Paris, London, Frankfurt and New York.

Together, they use Bach's music as the starting point for a cross-genre concert characterised by passion and creativity. Together they have developed the varied programme, which includes free interpretations of jazz pieces, original compositions and Israeli songs. But Avital cannot do without the music of his childhood hero Johann Sebastian Bach. Omer Klein also shares this admiration, and so they have added a mandolin arrangement of Bach's Partita No. 2, BWV 1004, to the programme. STEINWAY artist Omer Klein brings his art of improvisation to the piece, giving it a very unique interpretation.
