One musician, two worlds: In his solo concert, Wolfgang Muthspiel spans the gap between his musical homelands, the classical guitar and jazz improvisation. Muthspiel, a ‘shining light of the contemporary jazz guitar generation’ (The New Yorker), has already worked with greats such as Brad Mehldau, Dave Liebman, Larry Grenadier and Eric Harland. He comes to the Jazzclub with his latest album Etudes/Quietudes, on which he combines specially composed concert etudes with improvisations on ideas ranging from Bach to Bill Evans and Paul Motian. Muthspiel effortlessly transforms the technically demanding originals into the most intimate music, sometimes glamorously sparkling, sometimes poetically introspective.
