- Pünderich
"Altes Fährhaus" The old ferry house was built in 1621 and is richly carved.
During the construction of the French fortress Montroyal (1687), under Louis XIV, the residents of the surrounding towns were conscripted for labor and had to supply building materials and furniture. The French took advantage of the disassemblability of the timber-framed buildings and also transported the timber of the ferry house by ship to Montroyal. After the signing of the Treaty of Ryswick (1697), France lost Lorraine and the possessions on the right bank of the Rhine. The plundered timber-framed buildings were returned. As in most cases the timber was confused and mixed up, there were instances where different timber-framed parts, as well as in the case of the Pünderich ferry house, did not fit together properly.
