"Otto-Andreas Observation Tower" About 1 km above the locality of Macken, there is a sign on the L205 to the Otto-Andreas Observation Tower, built in 1973.
After about 500 m, you reach the highest point of the Macken district at 396 m above sea level via a paved field path. A secure wooden staircase leads to the observation platform of the 6 m high tower. Due to its free-standing position in the field, visitors are treated to an overwhelming 360-degree panorama across the Moselle Valley extending far into the Eifel and the high plateau of the Hunsrück, which is carved by numerous streams. In clear visibility, 72 villages can be seen from here.
The observation tower is named after the former Macken pastor and supporter of the tower construction, Pastor Otto Andreas.
In autumn, families with children often visit this elevated location to fly kites.
Directly at the observation tower, two sturdy table-bench combinations invite you to linger and enjoy snacks. The Otto-Andreas observation tower also marks the highlight of the circular hiking trail "Mackener Fernsehen," which connects to the surrounding premium hiking trails "Burgener Forellenweg" and "Murscher Eselche," offering hiking enthusiasts an impressive natural area.
