„Otto-Andreas Lookout Tower" Approximately 1 kilometer above the Hunsrück village of Macken, along the state road from Burgen to Kastellaun, a sign on the right points to the „Otto-Andreas Tower.”
Via a paved field path, one reaches the highest point of the Macken district after about 500 meters of hiking; 396 meters above sea level. At this highest parcel of land named "Auf dem Forst," the 6-meter-high observation tower stands. A short, secure wooden staircase leads to the viewing platform. An overwhelming panoramic view impresses visitors through the tower's free-standing position amidst the fields. The view extends over the Moselle and across the plateau of the Hunsrück, riddled with stream valleys. It stretches from the west to the north into the Eifel and far into the Maifeld - beyond the Moselle. On clear, beautiful days, 72 places in the nearby and surrounding area can be seen from here! At the foot of the hill, hiking trails lead to the charming and romantic side valleys of the Moselle. The observation tower was built in 1973 at the suggestion of the then pastor, Otto Andreas. He also contributed financially to the construction. The local community of Macken, as the owner, honored its former pastor and current honorary citizen of the community in the mid-eighties by naming the tower after him.
