- Macken
Chapel from the early 20th century on the outskirts of Macken.
In 1910, we find a note in the community chronicle of Macken: “In the forest above the village, a new chapel was built with community funds in place of an old one.” According to older citizens, the old chapel was a larger “Materl” (altar with a small anteroom). The new and larger chapel was often visited by the faithful population of the village; especially by “pregnant women who were hopeful,” praying for a good pregnancy outcome and a healthy child. In 1980, a celebration was held for the 70th anniversary of the “Brigitta Chapel.” The proceeds were used for the installation of new wrought iron grilles on the windows. In 1983, the “Brigitta Chapel” was placed under protection as a cultural monument. In the following year, preparations for the restoration, drainage, and refurbishment of the “Brigitta Chapel” were initiated. The population of the village contributed nearly 1000 working hours for the restoration of the “Chapel at the little forest.” And diligent hands from the neighborhood continue to care for the beautiful chapel on the outskirts of Macken today.
