39-meter-long bridge

Bridge at Waldrach 39 meters of Siberian larch The first 6.3 kilometers of the Ruwer-Hochwald cycle path end with an architectural highlight: The 39-meter-long bridge made of Siberian larch takes cyclists over the Ruwer river at Waldrach. The steel beams of the former railway bridge were replaced with wood during the construction of the cycle path. The builders of the bridge took inspiration from the famous Chapel Bridge in Lucerne from the 14th century. To ensure that the new bridge at Waldrach can also last a very long time, Siberian larch was used. This tree species grows particularly slowly, resulting in denser and more durable wood. For the bridge roof, the builders relied on slate, typical for the Mosel region, which not only protects the larch in bad weather but also provides shelter for cyclists.
