Fliehburg
The Fliehburg on the Naumeter Kopf near Waldrach
Southwest of Waldrach, a narrow, spur-like elevation drops steeply 170 m towards the Ruwer: the Naumeter Kopf. A metal cross stands prominently on its front edge, offering a beautiful view of the Ruwertal.
This narrow mountain ridge is separated by an earth wall that is about 150 m long and 20 m wide, along with a 7 m wide ditch located just behind it.
This structure is undoubtedly man-made and represents what is known as a section wall. It served to defend the Naumeter Kopf on the easily accessible mountain side, as here, in times of need, people found a refuge. This "Fliehburg" had a usable area on its plateau of about 150 m in length and 25 m in width.
Current investigations by the Rheinisches Landesmuseum suggest that this structure was created in the post-Roman period or in the early Middle Ages.
You can reach the Naumeter Kopf from Waldrach via the Förster-Mende-Pfad after a climb of about 3/4 hour. Alternatively, you can take a tour on stage 27 of the Saar-Hunsrück-Steig or ascend the Naumeter Kupp during a hike on the Traumschleife Galgenkopftour.
