Elisensitz

  • Kastel-Staadt

Crown Princess Elisabeth and her favourite place

The Elisensitz was built in 1833 by order of Crown Prince Friedrich Wilhelm of Prussia. In the course of the extension of the Klause as a tomb for the blind King John of Bohemia, this vantage point was designed by Karl Friedrich Schinkel. During several visits to Kastel-Staadt by the Crown Prince's family, this vantage point was the favourite place of his wife, Crown Princess Elisabeth of Bavaria, who, incidentally, was the aunt and godmother of the famous Empress Sisi. From the Elisensitz rest area, you have a magnificent panoramic view over the Pinschbach valley and the Runder Turm rock formation all the way to the Altfels.
