Elisensitz

  • Kastel-Staadt

Rest area with a beautiful panoramic view at the dream loop "Kasteler Felsenpfad"

The Elisensitz was created in 1833 on the commission of Crown Prince Friedrich Wilhelm of Prussia. As part of the expansion of the chapel as a mausoleum for the Blind King Johann of Bohemia, this lookout point was designed by Karl Friedrich Schinkel. During several visits of the Crown Prince’s family to Kastel-Staadt, this viewpoint was the favorite spot of his wife, Crown Princess Elisabeth of Bavaria, who was also the aunt and godmother of the famous Empress Sisi. From the rest area of Elisensitz, there is a splendid view over the Pinschbach Valley as well as the rock formation Runder Turm all the way to Altfels.
