How smartphone parking works
To buy a digital parking ticket, drivers need the Parkster app on their smartphone. The app is available free of charge for Android devices on Google Play and for the iPhone in the App Store. For the parking process, the motorist enters his license plate number and the parking duration in the app on his smartphone. The digital parking ticket has a clear advantage over its printed counterpart: The motorist can use his or her cell phone to extend the parking time within the maximum parking duration. So there's no longer any reason to fear a parking ticket if he wants to stay in the café or it takes longer in the waiting room. If he returns to his vehicle earlier, he ends the digital parking ticket early and thus saves unnecessary parking fees.
In Wittlich and Traben-Trarbach, there is also the classic "bread roll button" in the app: drivers can buy a free ticket for 30 minutes for quick errands.
"We are committed to making digital parking as simple, transparent and customer-friendly as possible," says Patrik Lundberg, Managing Director at Parkster Deutschland GmbH. He emphasizes that there are no higher parking rates with the Parkster app. "Anyone who parks privately with the Parkster app pays the same as at the parking machine. In addition, we offer drivers optional additional services in the app, such as a joint family account."
It is not necessary to enter sensitive account data in the app. Payment is made by invoice or credit card. Drivers receive a monthly invoice from Parkster by mail or e-mail that lists their parking transactions in detail.
Drivers can decide whether they want to receive this invoice by mail (free of charge, by default) or by post (€2.99 incl. VAT per invoice).
"Black parking" doesn't pay
And how is the digital parking ticket checked? Municipal traffic control can view all parking tickets purchased via the Parkster app in real time. Their employees can therefore see immediately for each vehicle whether a ticket has been redeemed and whether it is still valid.
